Rays Digest: How has your experience here (Winter Development Camp) been so far and what kinds of things have you been working on?
Brandon Martin: My experience here has been great. It's been fun. It's been great to see all my friends - my teammates. We all have a strong connection. I've been working on the same thing - hitting and trying to get better each and every day.
Rays Digest: Other than coming to the Development Program what has been your own personal workout regimen? Do you do a lot of hitting? Do you just do strength and conditioning?
Brandon Martin: A lot of running to try and get in shape for spring training. You got to be in shape for spring training, because that's the biggest thing and there's a lot of running out there. I've been going to the gym pretty much every day, hitting and taking ground balls as much as I can. But I'm going to start stepping it up once spring training starts rolling around.
Rays Digest: Did you go to the Lightning game last night? Are you a hockey fan at all?
Brandon Martin:: Yeah I did. I've been a hockey fan ever since I was growing up. My Mom, she works for the (Anaheim) Ducks out in California.
Rays Digest: Other than kind of baseball-related stuff, what kinds of things have you guys been working on here at the development camp? I know you guys have been going through media training and you've been doing some charity events. Is part of this program to try and make you into an all-around person and player?
Brandon Martin: Yeah we have been focusing more on the professional side and about getting stuff done. Getting a chance to be a big leaguer and see what they do and trying to advance you to the next step in your career as best as they can.
Rays Digest: If you could kind of sum up yourself or give a brief scouting report on yourself in terms of what the best part of your game is and what kind of player you are - what would you say?
Brandon Martin: I think I have all the tools I guess, I've just gotta put them into play more. I think I'm a great teammate and I like to have fun. I'm energetic, enthusiastic, athletic (laughs), and like to have fun.
Rays Digest: There are a lot of guys that are in the same part of the system that all play shortstop like Jake Hager, Johnny Eierman, Tyler Goeddel - and there are others -and of course yourself. Have you gotten kind of a sense of who's going to playing where? Is there going to be any position-shifting going around?
Brandon Martin: I try not to think about it. I let them do what they do - the front office. I have no control over it, I just go out there and do my best each and every day. I know I have no control over it.
Rays Digest: It was nice meeting you.
Brandon Martin: It was nice meeting you too. Thank you.
