Griffin, Straily Armed With New Perspective

OAKLAND - The 2012 Oakland A's roster was filled with players who emerged from obscurity to star for Oakland in their run to the post-season. Two of those players were pitchers A.J. Griffin and Dan Straily, close friends who overcame long odds to jump from Double-A to the big leagues in one season. Armed with their experience in 2012, the pair are ready for even bigger things in 2013.

With non-roster invitations to spring training being common for prospects nearing the big leagues, it is rare for an organization to promote a player to the major leagues mid-season that the big league manager has never met.
