an amount matching his 2008 salary. If he earns all the performance bonuses, Mulder would make $11,525,000 this year and $16,775,000 in each of the following two
seasons.
Became a Cardinal:
Acquired from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for pitchers Kiko Calero and Dan Haren and catcher Daric Barton on December 18, 2004.
2006 Season:
Mulder was 6-7 with a 7.14 ERA in 17 starts last year. He was sidelined from June 22 to August 23 because of rotator cuff damage
and what the team called an impingement in his shoulder. He went back on the DL on August 31. He underwent surgery to repair a partial tear of his rotator cuff on September 12.
Career Notes:
Mulder was taken second overall by the Oakland A's in the 1998 draft and was already pitching out of their starting rotation by 2000. Along with Barry Zito and Tim Hudson, Mulder became part of the trio of starting pitchers know as the "Big Three" before being acquired by the Cardinals prior to the 2005 season. He owns a career mark of 103-57 with a 4.11 ERA. His 94 wins since the 2001 season rank third among all lefties behind just Randy Johnson (101) and Barry Zito (95). He went 16-8 for the Cardinals in 2005 before dropping to 6-7 last year in an injury-plagued season that forced him to undergo rotator cuff surgery on Sept. 12. Mulder is a two-time All-Star (2003,2004).
